Whole house laminate flooring is where layout matters most. One plank color running from the front door through the halls and into the bedrooms makes a house feel bigger, but a long floating floor needs a plan.

Most manufacturers limit how far a floor can run before it needs a break, often around 40 feet in one direction. Past that, or through narrow doorways between big rooms, we put in a T-molding so each section can move on its own. We lay out those breaks with you before we start.

We run the planks parallel to the longest wall or toward the main light source, and we stagger the end joints at least 8 to 12 inches row to row so no pattern shows. The first and last rows get ripped so neither is a thin sliver.

The planks acclimate in the house for 48 hours before install. On a whole house job, that means we drop the boxes off early. Most homes of 1,000 to 1,500 square feet take our crew two to four days including old floor removal and trim. This is also our usual approach to laminate floor replacement when an older floor has worn through.

Laminate flooring FAQs

Questions about laminate flooring installation

Questions we hear most often about Whole House Laminate Flooring in Philadelphia, PA.

Talk to our crew
What AC rating do I need?
AC3 suits most homes, including bedrooms, living rooms and halls. AC4 holds up better to pets, kids and kitchen or entry traffic. We install mostly AC3 and AC4 boards and will tell you which fits each room.
Is laminate waterproof?
Standard laminate handles spills wiped up quickly. Waterproof laminate has sealed joints and a treated core rated to resist standing water for a set time. For kitchens, baths and basements we usually recommend waterproof lines.
Do I need to move my furniture?
Please clear small items, electronics and anything fragile. Ask about furniture moving when you book, and we will tell you what our crew can handle on your job.
What happens at doorways?
We undercut the door jambs so planks slide underneath, and we set a T-molding or reducer where the laminate meets another floor or where a long run needs a break.
Can laminate go on stairs?
Yes. Stair treads are glued, not floated, and finished with a matching stair nose. We check for squeaks and fasten loose treads before we start.
